This project originated from business connections established at an industry exhibition last quarter, culminating in a finalized deal after five weeks of intensive negotiations.
The primary challenge was complying with Mexico’s stringent certification requirements. Our engineering team worked closely with the client’s local certification agency, specifically reinforcing the gooseneck section to meet Mexico’s unique road weight distribution standards. Certification was successfully obtained just two days before production commencement.
For transportation, we innovatively adopted a hybrid approach combining LCL (Less than Container Load) shipping with local assembly: The semi-trailers were shipped as knockdown kits from Qingdao Port to Lázaro Cárdenas Port, then assembled at our partner’s facility in Guadalajara. This solution not only reduced transportation costs by 18% but also enabled delivery nine days ahead of schedule.
Over two months of operation, these semi-trailers have been consistently servicing the Monterrey-Tijuana route for mining equipment transportation. The client particularly praised the outstanding performance of our heavy-duty suspension system in mountainous terrain.
Although this initial order was modest in volume, it provided valuable insights into the Mexican market:
• Local assembly partnerships effectively circumvent import tariffs
• Mexican market receptiveness to hybrid CKD/CBU transportation solutions
• Competitive advantages of pre-certified products
We are currently negotiating a follow-up order for 10 units with potential to expand into Central American operations. This successful delivery has established a crucial foothold for our products in the North American heavy transport market.
